Dan's
Desk From Triangle's CEO
"What?? We can't have a beta-site in Japan - need to wait until the product has been tested in the US/Europe etc., before testing in Japan." Wrong, well, at least partly. We have been seeing more and more examples of Japanese companies serving - or willing to serve - as beta sites in Japan. The other day we came back from a first road show for a forward looking Israeli software start up wanting to develop business in Japan in parallel with its business in ROW (how does it feel to western-o-philes being called ROW's, huh?). We met with a 2000 person private company in the Israeli company's business areas. Two meetings later - "we want to be a beta site asap." We are seeing this more and more, for two reasons, I think. One, is better beta's - Israeli ventures are getting better at releasing pre-release versions of their products. The second, is that Japanese companies may increasingly think that technology diffuses around the world rapidly, and to be at the state of the art, it is sometimes in their own interest to sacrifice perfection for speed. As a result of this approach, we have seen some cases recently in which Japanese companies launch beta sites or make trial purchases as rapidly or more rapidly than their US counterparts - as long as the presentation of the Israeli company's products is competent and professional.
