Over 40 companies will participate in this year's Nikkei Business Publication's Israel-Japan---Internet and E-Commerce Exhibition June 20-21 in Tokyo. In addition to these companies there will be top-tier keynote speakers from Japan and Israel. TOSHIBA TO INVEST IN ISRAELI COS TOGETHER WITH TRIANGLE TECHNOLOGIES
iValue Creation, Toshiba's in-house company responsible for Toshiba's Internet and E-commerce strategy, plans to invest $50 million in Israeli start-ups in the areas of Internet, B2B, and m-commerce. Triangle Technologies will work together with iVC in this endeavor.

IT INVESTMENTS INCREASED IN 1999
According to the Economic Planning Agency (EPA), Information Technology (IT) Investments in Japan increased by 3.4% in 1999 to $150 billion.

MOBILE PHONES OUTNUMBER FIXED LINES
It finally happened. There are more mobile phone users in Japan than fixed line users. As of April 2000 there were 56.84 million mobile phone subscribers to the 55.66 million fixed line subscribers.
 
JAPAN TO SURPASS U.S. IN NET DIFFUSION RATE IN 2001
NTT think-tank, Infocom Research (ICR) claims that the Net diffusion rate in Japan will surpass that of the U.S. By 2003 the ICR estimates that the diffusion rate in the U.S will be 60% and in Japan 87%.


DDI, IDO CDMA SUBSCRIPTIONS REACH 5 MILLION

The DDI group and IDO announced that there are 5 million subscribers to cdmaOne nationwide mobile telephone network.
 
AD RATES FOR POPULAR WEBSITES INCREASE
Due to a shortage of ad space on high-traffic Internet sites advertising agencies are raising rates. According to D.A. Consortium, a Tokyo-based ad agency, applications for ad placements will increase 3X this year.
 
GOVERNMENT TO SET STANDARD FOR NET-READY PHONES
The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) wants to create a global standard for technology used to distribute video games and animation via next-generation cell phones.
 
PC PENETRATION INCREASES IN 2000
According to the EPA, 38.6% of Japanese households have PCs, a 9% increase from this time last year.
 

ALMOST 80% OF COMPANIES USE THE INTERNET
According to the MPT almost 80% of companies use the Internet. Of the corporate Internet users, 25% use the Internet for marketing purposes.
   
RISE IN POPULARITY OF COLOR LCD MOBILE PHONES
Nikkei Market Access, a data service of Nikkei Business Publications, claims that mobile phones using LCDs will account for 48% of mobile phones made in Japan in 2000.

DDI & KYOCERA TEST OPTICAL WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY
DDI and Kyocera DDI Institute of Future Telecommunications plan to conduct a high-speed data transmission experiment by using optical wireless technology. They predict that the data will be transmitted at a maximum speed of 622 Mbps..

HITACHI & PE BIOSYSTEMS TO INTRODUCE GENETIC ANALYZER
Hitachi and US PE Biosystems developed a genetic analyzer which they claim efficiently detects genes. This is useful in diagnosing illnesses and developing new drugs.
