Seed Partners Leads $9 million Second Round Investment in
Oktama Meg Weston of Konica Appointed CEO
Israel
Seed Partners of Jerusalem announced today that it has led
a $9 million investment in a start up company, Oktama Ltd.,
of Israel. The investors included Israel Seed, Dor Ventures
(Aryeh Rosenfeld, Shlomo Dovrat), APAX-Leumi, Jafco, and European
Venture Partners. The founders of Oktama are a group of experts
in digital printing from Japan and Israel, and Triangle Technologies
of Ramat Gan.
"Oktama
has developed a proprietary web-enabled printing service which
allows end users to produce highly personalized output including
text, pictures, and graphics," commented Michael Eisenberg,
General Partner at Israel Seed. "Analogous to PictureVision,
which we helped launch several years ago and has led the market
in digital image hosting, Oktama is rapidly establishing itself
as the leader in personalized printed products delivered over
the web."
Israel
Seed further announced the appointment of Meg Weston as CEO
of Oktama. Ms. Weston joined Oktama following a 17 year career
in the photo finishing industry, including which as President
of Konica Photo finishing USA she built Konica's sales from
$30 million to $150 million. "Since coming on board in February,
it is clear from partner reactions in the US and Japan that
Oktama is perfectly positioned to be a leader in the web-enable
personalized printing field. We already have signed several
major strategic agreements with marketing and business partners
throughout the world, including leading multinationals, and
consumers are enthusiastic," commented Ms. Weston. Oktama's
management team consists of top executives from Polaroid,
Kodak, Fuji, Konica, Indigo, 3Com, EFI, PhotoDisc and other
leading companies.
"Oktama
will launch its services in the Japanese and US markets in
parallel, a first for an Israeli company" commented Dr. Daniel
Isenberg, board member of Oktama and CEO of Triangle Technologies,
which played a key role in raising capital, recruiting executives,
and establishing Oktama's strategic alliances. "The Japanese
have a large and rapidly growing installed base of digital
cameras, and Americans own huge numbers of web-archived digital
images," commented Dr. Isenberg, whose company Triangle Technologies
became an early partner to Oktama and played a key role in
raising capital, recruiting executives, and establishing strategic
alliances.
About
Oktama
Oktama was established to fill a growing gap between traditional
printing and publishing services, on the one hand, which are
traditionally targeted to commercial customers who place a
small number of large quantity orders, and the need and opportunity
for highly personalized output, on the other hand, which is
enabled by digital data and the Internet.. "Needless to say,
we are proud of the fact that Meg Weston, with her extensive
experience and industry stature, chose to join Oktama. She
provides Oktama with tremendous legitimacy for our original
concept," explained Yoav Ben-Dror, Chairman and co-founder
of Oktama.
